About us
Our mission:
"To make regenerative farming the standard for winemakers and the first choice for conscious drinkers"
Vivan Co-operative Limited exists to solve a systemic failure in the European wine industry. While vineyards occupy only 4% of agricultural land, they account for 20% of the total pesticide use.
This chemical dependency, combined with an opaque supply chain, has marginalised small-scale, regenerative winemakers and eroded rural village economies.
We are a democratically controlled enterprise, registered as a Co-operative Society (Company number RS005506) and governed by the principle of "One Member, One Vote."
We are a Social Enterprise, also called a non-profit.
Our Member-Owned Model
Vivan is a multi-stakeholder co-operative designed to decentralise power and restore ecological integrity:
-
Our Winemakers (Supplier Members): We exclusively support independent family businesses farming under 15 hectares and dedicated to regenerative farming. Our members are the "4% chamgemakers"—committed to regenerative, pesticide-free practices that protect soil health and biodiversity (SDG 15).
-
Our Commitment to Equity (SDG 5 & 8): We are dedicated to systemic social change. This includes a target of 50% female-led vineyards and a commitment to manual-harvest viticulture, which preserves human labour and economic vitality in small rural villages rather than replacing people with industrial machinery.
-
Our Workers (Employee Members): Every employee is a partner in our mission, ensuring that our logistics, marketing, and community-building are managed by those with a true stake in the co-operative's success.
Our Purpose: Sovereignty, Not Just Sales
Beyond distribution, we provide the infrastructure—shared expertise, collective transport, and a cellar-direct pathway—to ensure small vignerons achieve financial sovereignty.
By eliminating unnecessary middlemen and the "Warehouse" model, we ensure that the value generated by the wine is returned to the land and the people who tend it. We operate on a not-for-profit-maximisation basis, reinvesting our surplus into the transition toward a fully regenerative wine future.
