L'histoire

We planted the vineyard in 2019, alongside our day jobs as accountants, as a way to reconnect with the land and build a different kind of life. Lucie runs it day to day now, with brilliant seasonal help in the vineyard and cellar, while Jules fits late-night sprays and cellar work around his day job.

The site had been conventionally farmed for decades before we took it on — it was, frankly, a dead site. Watching the soil come back to life has been the whole point ever since.

Philosophie

We put nature at the centre of every decision from the day we planted, and by 2023 we found we'd already been doing everything needed for biodynamic certification. Now, as the soil heals, our focus is on protecting the biodiversity that's made Ham Street home and keeping the vines healthy and resilient.

When we planted, we struggled to find a single worm. Now you can walk into the vineyard and see hundreds of species of insects, birds and wildlife — and dig a hole and find dozens of worms. The vineyard is alive.

Le vignoble : Ham Street

A 4-hectare vineyard on the edge of the Romney Marshes in Kent, five grape varieties planted into clay soil, bordered on the north and east by ancient woodland and open to the sea to the south. Our winery is entirely off-grid — solar-powered, with worm composting toilets and rainwater harvesters. We grow vegetables, apples and other seasonal fruit alongside the vines, for ourselves and to share with guests during harvest.
